The 2006 Mark Webber Pure Tasmania Challenge is a major charity initiative to raise money for TLC For Kids and Cancer Council Tasmania's Cancer Plus program.

Suitable For: Beginners to experienced adventure racers, although a high level of overall fitness will be required. Competency checks may be carried out on all team members prior to the event to ascertain their individual ability to do specific safety and race discipline based tests.

Note, entries in the 2006 Mark Webber Pure Tasmania Challenge are limited to twelve teams (including one combined team entry to be auctioned off by both event charities). Due to the significant level of interest in the event team entry confirmation will be on a first in, first served basis.
Disciplines: Walking, Running, Kayaking (including white water grade 1/2), Mountain Biking (off road & sealed stages), Navigation and Mystery Disciplines.
Entry Includes: Accommodation (November 3 – 10 2006 inclusive), most meals, maps, emergency rescue team, logistical support, some clothing, use of necessary equipment (including kayaks, mountain bike, GPS system, most sleeping gear etc), transport/transfers within Tasmania, individual tickets to all pre and post event functions.
Competitors need to provide:
- Flights to Launceston for the start of the MWPTC and return flights from Hobart at the completion. (Note, MWPTC finishes in Hobart and MWPTC will arrange competitor transfers from Launceston airport and to Hobart airport).
- Pre and post race accommodation (outside of Friday November 3 and Friday November 10, 2006)
- A signed/witnessed copy of the 2006 Mark Webber Pure Tasmania Challenge Participation Agreement
It is recommended that competitors supply the following personal items:
- Soft luggage bag
- 1 x Day pack and liner per person
- 1 x Sleeping bag per person
- 1 x Rain jacket for riding per person
- 1 x Wick top (Coolmax design - long sleeves) per person
- 1 x pair pants/shorts (combination - zip off) per person
- 1 x Riding top per person
- 1 x Pair of riding shorts per person

- Well broken in walking boots and runners

Participation Agreement:
Prior to competing in the 2006 Mark Webber Pure Tasmania Challenge individual competitors will be required to sign a Participation Agreement. A copy of the Participation Agreement will be sent to all teams once their entry has been confirmed in writing.
Notes: The Mark Webber Pure Tasmania Challenge will be a mental and physical challenge covering up to 600km and comprising some of Tasmania most rugged and iconic urban and wilderness features. The exact details of the course and most of the disciplines will be given to teams 24hrs before the start.
Participants will experience the loneliness and ruggedness of the Tasmanian wilderness with its unpredictable weather conditions and best known features as well as the excitement of racing in the urban environment.
The event will be 6 days in length with varying disciplines and day lengths. The course will comprise two urban challenges at the start and the finish, and these will be linked with the course meandering through the Tasmanian wilderness.
A course booklet will be provided containing the race checkpoints and transitions. Teams must navigate to the designated transition and checkpoint in the required times and arrive at the end of day checkpoint for the overnight stop.

Race Format
- Teams must have four members at all times
- No substitution of members is allowed
- Team members must remain within 50 metres of each other at all times
Transitions, Check Points and Control Cards
- Times are taken at each Transition Point (where a change of discipline usually occurs)
- Teams must punch their Control Cards at each Check Point, in the correct manner or face a penalty
- Control cards will be issued and collected each day
Race Finish and Cut Off's
- There will be cut off times for various legs of the race (pre determined)
- If a team member has to retire from the race, the race director may allow a three person team to continue
Penalties and Disqualifications
- Any rule breaking to gain an advantage could result in disqualification
- Time penalties can be awarded to a team if they miss Check Points, miss cut off times or do not follow the course booklet correctly
- Time Penalties will be added to the team's total race time
