Pure Tasmania is proud to be a major sponsor of the Challenge and with support from national and international companies believes it will promote Tasmania to the world as the adventure-racing island.
The man behind the race, Mark Webber, will himself head the Pure Tasmania Team and will be accompanied by, James Cracknell, Guy Andrews and Matt Dalziel.
Mark Webber
Australian Formula One driver Mark Webber needs little introduction. Webber is the founder of the Mark Webber Foundation and has launched the challenge as a major charity initiative to extend his own physical and mental ability and to get involved with fellow competitors in the one of the toughest, most gruelling adventure racing courses and charity projects ever.
James Cracknell
James Cracknell's remarkable career has seen him win two Olympic gold medals for Britain and win gold in the World Championships for five years running. In 2004, Cracknell was honoured for his services to sport with an OBE and his impressive winning streak continued in 2005, with a gold medal in the pairs division at the Atlantic rowing race. Happily married to TV and radio presenter, Beverly Turner, Cracknell retired from competitive rowing in February 2006.
Guy Andrews
Guy Andrews is an elite sportsman and regarded as one of Australia's best adventure racers. In Andrews' adventure racing debut at the world championships, his team finished a phenomenal third and recently at the solo world championships, Andrews beat all the European and North American champions placing him fourth overall. A month out from the Challenge, Andrews remarkably completed seven marathons, in seven days, across seven states.
Matt Dalziel
Matt Dalziel is best known for winning the Australian white water racing Championships an impressive four times, and has more recently moved to adventure racing, where he is considered one of the best in the field. Finishing in the top three in the Primal Quest and Eco Challenge, Dalziel is looking seriously at the Mark Webber Pure Tasmania Challenge as another opportunity to show his talent against some tough competition.
